HistoryThe Bailey Leadership Initiative began in 2004 with the goal of working with organizations and individuals to increase their leadership capacities. Since 2004, we have worked with over thirty organizations in areas of fundraising, strategic planning and organizational and leadership development. In 2005—2006, the Bailey Leadership Initiative worked with an organization in the difficult transition of hiring a new executive director to replace its founding director. Understanding the critical nature of hiring an executive director to follow a founding director, we carefully worked with the organization’s executive committee to develop a job description that identified key competencies for moving the organization to its next stage. We developed a transition plan that included a schedule that accommodated the timeline and schedule of the board members, and we developed a hiring procedure with procedures for introducing a new director to the organization. The organization made a successful hire and has been able to transition from its start-up phase of development to an organization that has developed more focus and a more structured approach to its work. |
